The word 'eventually' was used. Maybe I'm thinking on too long a time scale for mere humans, but volcanoes can rise above low tide, coral can't.

More about the pole flip.
The earth's magnetic field weakened something like 5% over the 20th century. Then dropped 10% between 2000 and 2015. By 2050 pole reversal it could be fully in progress.
The only thing anyone will agree on is that when it starts, it happens fast.

According to the National Academy of Sciences sea level is not only rising, but rising progressively.
Climate-change (PNAS, 12 Feb 2018)
Quote:
Satellite altimetry has shown that global mean sea level has been rising at a rate of ∼3 ± 0.4 mm/y since 1993. Using the altimeter record coupled with careful consideration of interannual and decadal variability as well as potential instrument errors, we show that this rate is accelerating at 0.084 ± 0.025 mm/y2, which agrees well with climate model projections. If sea level continues to change at this rate and acceleration, sea-level rise by 2100 (∼65 cm) will be more than double the amount if the rate was constant at 3 mm/y.

65cm by 2100...
Wasn't there some maniac on here saying the sea level was going to rise 6 to 10 feet by 2100?
Because 65cm isn't anywhere near 6 to 10 feet.

I've visited beaches that have gone completely under in just the past thirty years, where buildings that used to be tens of meters inland have waves lapping at their foundations.

65mm is a lot for coastal towns. And the average rise will be much bigger for those of us closer to the equator, as heat-driven water expansion raises the levels even more.

My home is at sea level, unlike most of the homes around here and in the west who are below. No problem, we have dikes and active water management.

Bangladesh, not so lucky. A hundred million people will have to migrate within 50 years from now.

I lived at sea level from 2006 to 2010.
I made sure to get out of there.

People will pay more attention to "water level" when it's rising in their outhouse!

Just a guess, but four years and out sounds like he had a head instead of an outhouse.

Those are valuable skills. I believe New Orleans took advantage to some extent.

They did, but only after Katrina. They had a plan before that which would have made a difference but never came to execute it.

Moving out only shifts the problem to the people who take over the house; who are probably poorer and less able to cope with disaster.
That’s basically what happened in New Orleans.
