Coil spring clamps

I want to temporarily lower my TDI for the summer, and I want to do it on the cheap, so I thought about using coil spring clamps.

However, I read on almost every other forum that they are a safety hazard. What is your opinion on those clamps? Keep in mind that I will drive like an ecomodder, not autocross the car.

What's the reason they're considered a hazard?

A couple of things. They clamp and put stress on the springs. I personally have run them and had a spring break at the clamp. And that was on my old 88 Nissan Sentra. And I was driving easy, not autoxing...

I do know some folks that have run them and do OK, maybe my car was the exception. I also know they won't pass safety inspection locally.
