that is weird, it worked for me, even ajaxed up the phrase before I was done typing it.
Results 1 - 10 of about 8,780 for "cold spot of the nation". (0.34 seconds)

Did you put quotes around it?

I did it with quotes
without quotes you get a lot more hits
Results 1 - 10 of about 547,000 for cold spot of the nation. (0.24 seconds

Na, but the first time, I didn't actually search.
I figured that being a popular search term, if the autocomplete didn't come up with it in quotes, it wasn't going to work. I didn't realize that I spelled "spot" as "spit" when I did it, until I checked my input log a few mins ago.
When I posted the results with the quotes, I made sure to spell it correctly and actually click the search button.
