Constant throttle control

Obviously, cruise control has it's disadvantages: being a constant speed control, it pours gas into the engine on ascents. But is there such a thing as a constant throttle control? Perhaps with a back up speed control function (that is, it will not allow you to drop more than 10mph below your original set speed)? I'm still working on keeping a steady foot...

A different question: my 02 corolla has the VVT engine. Can it do lean burn?

Hello Chuck,

I don't know if it exists -- but it should! It would be a great fuel saver.

I was actually thinking about hacking a cruise control to read MPG instead of speed and having it adjust to a set MPG...but that's a whole other project...

You can do it, I think basjoos has, but it has to be DIY.

Also, no lean burn on toyotas,

The logic, according to my wife (graduated in elec engr), would be pretty simple. For a simple constant throttle control, you'd basically use the TPS instead of the speed sensor as your primary input. Dual input controllers, like I mentioned above, are also relatively simple. However, who knows how tough it would be to crack an aftermarket cc to pull this off? Me, I'm just a mech engr. I'll leave the electron pushing to those more qualified.
Controlling to MPG would be tougher, but entirely possible.

That is a good link. I use my foot and a Vacuum Gauge to maintain constant throttle control.

Hi,

Does it set a fixed speed; or a fixed throttle setting? Reading through the copy, it seems like it is a speed control...

Here's what I would love to have: a control that set the throttle position, and allowed -5mph +3mph -- or have the speed range be adjustable! When it hits the upper limit, it should reduce the throttle, or allow you to coast in neutral and then resume.

Read all the info on the site and you will find that this unit is an electric throttle stop/lock.
You set the throttle where you want and the unit holds it at that place until you so let go. Either with the off switch or the brake. You would need to get a second micro switch for the clutch on manual cars so you don't over-rev when shifting. Or you would only use it in high gear on the highway and remember to tap the brake before downshifting or gliding.
Looks like a nice setup though. I remember seeing those on RVs a long time ago. (before cruise control became so popular)
