If I recall correctly, the other reason they stopped using that car was that it was pretty much impossible, with the engineering of the time, to get the steering geometry just right since it was so complex. I think if F1 wasn't run by people with their heads in various places that they shouldn't be, that basic concept could work better with current technology.

Ok, I'm done threadjacking

Teacher, I have a question ?

Regarding the video above about the 8 wheeled car, I see that a major challenge was winding the copper around the motor. My question is; Why not melt the copper and mold it to a thickness around the piece? Would a solid piece of copper conduct better than hundreds of wound turns?

Just seemed like the obvious answer ...

^^ i'm pretty sure no it wouldn't. audio guys like the thickest gauge cables with the most wires inside because there is more surface area. and if one wire goes bad, the cable is still ok. And with r/c car motors, the lower the windings the the faster it can spin to max speed, and more windings is usually more torque

Maybe you are making the common mistake of thinking that is bare copper wire.
It's insulated wire (with a clear coating). If it wasn't, the windings would be
a dead short, and not generate a magnetic field. (Just heat).

In answer to the question "why 8 wheels?": I think it may have to do with acceleration, deceleration, braking and handling of this beast by a common mortal. The mechanics/electricians who will have to perform the maintenance, though, must be higher beings for sure.

Hi All,

Does this car have friction brakes ? I do not remember seeing any. So the 8 of the 100 HP wheel motor/brakes probably are needed to get the braking power needed.

Also, this car has a pretty heavy battery load. Tires with sufficient load rating might be quite large, and have lots of air drag. Where the 8 tires fit under the lower body work.

If you know the name of the car or inventor you'll be able to find the car on youtube.
Like I said, it's called the Eliica.
