Cop stop number 7
Here we go again. Another local cop pulled me over, the excuse this time was to check if my license plates were correct since they were an old (16 year old) SC license plate design mounted on what looked to the cop to be a new futuristic car. I recently painted my car and it cleaned up very nicely. All of those people who were carping about "rough as a shipping pallet" and "ugly as sin" will have to take their words back. The paint smoothed out all of the seams and rivets and it now looks like a jet aircraft fuselage on wheels. From a distance and at night you can't even see the wheels, so it looks like it is hovering just above the ground "a la Star Wars". Anyway after he brought back the license/registration/insurance info he popped the question, "What kind of car is this and whats all the stuff on it for?" and I explained that it started out as a Honda Civic which I modified to improve the mileage and told him what mileage I was getting, etc, etc. He was very interested in my answers.

For good or bad, cops just look for the low hanging fruit... if something 'sticks out' out of place or is out of the ordinary, chances are they will be writting a ticket or two. Sad but mostly true.
It turns out a lot of cops are gearheads, too, your car likely gets talked about. Some probably just want to see what you're up to.
Do you have new post-paint pics of your very inspirational Honda, basjoos?

basjoos - I'm glad you post the details of these incidents. It will help prepare others who are following in your footsteps!
PS - I second the call for pics of the new paint job.

Yep, the cop just pulled you over so he could get a closer look at the car.
I have known cops who have admitted pulling over girls just to meet them. Same thing with sexy cars!

My car looks better too from far away especially when turned the opposite direction.
What kind of paint did you use?

cops
Having left Bonneville, and on way to L.A.,I was near InyoKern,California when a Chippy did a u-turn on HWY-385 and raced up near, and tailed me for a "long" time.Suppose he satisfied himself that I was "legal",as he never did stop me,slowed, reversed direction and disappeared in the rearview.I'd left all the numbers and safety inspection stuff on the CRX,there was a little salt left on the car,he was probably justified in "looking".I did get pulled over for speeding in the T-100 last trip out to West Texas. The Trooper had me pulled over and out of the truck when it donned on him that I was doing 77 in a 80.He was really (and I mean Really) embarrassed, apologized for the inconvenience to me,said he was new to the area, and not used to the 80-mph speed zone yet.We chatted about aero mods,he gave me the thumbs-up,apologized once more and that was the end of it.I'm glad he was nowhere around when I was tailing a Homeland Security Tahoe at 109 mph in Arizona!

Basjoos, This thread is useless without pics!!! Not really, the cop story is interesting, but it's not fair to tease us!!!!

If the fairings didn't flex much you could probably bondo the seams for a super smooth look.

Nice! I hadn't noticed the boattail on the muffler before. All the little details are in place.
