Cordless Electric Lawn Mowers Do Work!

A month ago I bought a Black & Decker Cordless Electric lawn mower, not expecting to mow my whole yard but at least reduce my fuel consumption and the horrible gasoline smells in my garage. I am happy to report these mowers do work and have saved me over a gallon of fuel already.

I wrote a review about it and hope it will encourage you to get one as well!

i considered both the cordless electric as well as the Reel mowers.

Issues i have read about the REEL mowers is you have to cut the grass often - the Reel does not tolerate grass that is to long - so cutting every week ( or more often in spring)

Which would not be all that bad - get my Butt out exersizing more often.

When my lower dies - I am going to look into an electric conversion - get a small 1 HP - 12 V electric engine. probably can covert for much less the cost than a new one.

Besides this will help he deside if i think i can really convert a CAR to electric....

Three reasons for not using a reel mower: 1) I did at my old place, where the lawn was about half the size of a tennis court. Here it's more work than I care to do. 2) I need to bag the clippings (they don't decompose well in this dry climate). 3) I have a lot of semi-natural areas that just get mowed once or twice a year, when pretty tall, and a reel mower wouldn't handle that.

I use both a gas mower AND a push reel mower.
Truth be told, I don't like either one! I prefer using a WeedEater.

LoL!

Maybe I'll try a sickle next...

I got a reel mower a few weeks ago and have mowed with it twice. The ones in stores today are a lot better than the antiques that my grandparents used. I don't think mine is any harder to push than my gas mower.

I actually have a scythe, too, but I've never tried to use it.

Just get an old starter motor, a used 12-volt battery and some wire. Electric Vehicle Conversion Diary (Entry 94)

On the topic of mowers, I picked up an old sunbeam corded unit to replace the fancy reel one I broke. It's got a bagger too, but we don't normally bag (better to leave it on the lawn). I hope to have fun with the cord management challenge.

Oh, and I got a grass whip too, it is fun to use and augments a reel mower nicely (it rolls over the stray long bits sometimes). With practice you can use it like a weed whacker too. Only the snowblower still takes gas (and half the vehicles).
