crx carburetor screen
if you remove the air cleaner on a crx, there is a screen over the carburetor. anybody know what that screen is for?

I'm pretty sure it's there in case the engine back fires, fuel spray hits the screen and is sucked back in to the engine, otherwise fuel spray can reach the air cleaner where it can soak in and become a fire hazard.
It also keeps junk from falling in... dropping a nut down the intake is not fun and if left in there will destroy the head. |
Honda does a good job of trying to protect its cars, and thereby, you.
When my fuel pump started to go bad while mountain climbing (the car) in Montana on vacation, I smelled the gas. Happy to find out fuel pump was very accessible, inexpensive, and had a special drain tray to keep the car from catching on fire. I was able to safely drive about 100 miles w/o much fuel loss back to the nearest city that carried one. |
backfire protection, that makes sense. my dumptruck backfired so hard once it blew the aircleaner cover clear off. I wonder if the screen reduces air flow enough to warrant removing it?

did some research, and found that the screen might effect airflow at high rpm, but shouldn't effect low speed operation. I will leave it in.
