Custom Henderson "Streamliner"

According to some info I found online, the bike was originally built by O. Ray Courtney in 1936 and is based on a 1930 K.J. Henderson. The bike is powered by inline four cylinder and as I’m sure you can gather by now, is a one-off custom.

Hold on a minute...

Are those panniers on the front wheel?

They rotate left-right with the steering? Are they sprung or unsprung?

It's solo machine, right?

Are those cargo tie-downs behind the seat? Or handles, for what purpose?

To have something to hang on to when try to wriggle your butt free from the suction of the "bucket seat?"

Amazing. When I looked at it I thought it was a new bike with retro-streamline looks. Even though it's classic streamline, I get this feeling that it's 2010, not 1936.

Along similar, but less swoopy, lines -- Teutonic? -- is this BMW R7 prototype from 1934:



A single copy was crafted in 1934 by design engineer Alfred Böning. His vision was a
departure from the "bicycle with motor" design still prevalent in the 1930s. The R7
incorporated sweeping enclosed bodywork, a pressed steel frame, valanced mudguards
and then-innovative telescopic front forks.
