I'm mentoring high school students that are participating in a FIRST (www.usfirst.org) Robotics Competition (FRC) team... I'm helping the software programming sub-team using Java (Arragonis's favorite ). Many of the kids started out this season not knowing anything about programming, much less how to program a robot using Java. It's very cool seeing the kid's excitement when they first see their code control the robot... even better seeing some kids just 'get it' and really dig into the code and the concepts! Brings a smile to my face every time I go!!

Happy to be of help, despite the time difference.

Superbly done - I'm happy for any language that gets kids into code, even (nnnngaaa) Java - I'm currently learning Android which is of course all Java... which means unlearning all those things I have in C# naturally...

As they say round where I'm from "Get in..."

Day before yesterday's smile: Noticing that one in 5-6 cars has its grille or radiator blocked with cardboard. If only they kept them when the cold spell is over...

Yesterday's smile:
x13

Today's smiles: Biking 10km in a snowstorm, a long walk with the Wife and the dog, 30 minutes of crosscountry skiing, and another 30 minutes of intense snowshoveling - all within less than 3 hours

My Craig's List post of Kawasaki 250 Enduro expired, and I will leave it that way!

Gas is going up, the bike is paid for, and I like 112mpg.

As the state trooper passed me on the highway, I glanced over and nodded hello and got a nod back. Maybe 1/4 mile later I bump started for the next hill.

I sold a boat last week. The fellow didn't hitch it correctly. He got about 1 mile the trailer jumped off. He was at a busy intersection. His wife immediately called me since I'm the only local they know. I jumped in to the truck and hurried over and was there in under 5 minutes. There were already at least 5 guys with jacks, wood blocks, and strong backs getting that boat back on the hitch One old man was even in his Sunday going to church suit helping. And the most remarkable thing was NO ONE honked their horn. WOW people are good at heart. I'm still smiling

That reminds me of a day last July in Ontario. The backup to the 1000 Islands Bridge was immense. I got to do some backseat hypermiling, telling my wife to open the windows and shut down the engine.

The whole road had turned into kind of a block party and I was walking my kids along it when we came across a guy changing the tire on his trailer. I asked if he needed any help and he said "you know, you're like the 10th person to offer, but I'm almost done." It was nice to be in a large crowd of tired, delayed travelers on a hot day who still, as a group, were trying to help each other out.

The other day I was slowly accelerating on an on ramp to merge onto the 3 lane freeway.

I could see that the 18wheeler was going to be blocked from moving to the middle lane
to let me in, so I slowed my acceleration so that he would pass by smoothly first,

and I got rewarded by him blinking his lights in appreciation.

In this day, and age; thats a big deal to me. Nice to travel on the road with someone who actually thinks!!!
