Never mind urethane - I'm had a hard enough time tracking down a decent piece of cardboard today.

Anyway, yet another way to do it would be to use pink or blue styrofoam from your local home improvement store. Cut, carve, and sand it to shape, then paint it with some latex paint. THEN fiberglass over that. The latex paint keeps the polyester resin from attacking the foam.
If you use epoxy you can apply it with glass directly over the extruded foam that you have formed, carve out the back, epoxy that, filler, sand , primer, paint.

Of course epoxy needs to be mixed very well and costs more than resin.

More cat skinning ideas. (no cats were actually skinned in the making of this post)

Been watching the progress on this and makes me feel that if I am going to skirt my Metro, it will have to be front and rear skirts.

Great job MetroMPG

Skirt construction attempt, Take 2:

Got a decent (smooth, non creased) cardboard mockup taped into place on the frame & wheel arch, then stuck the first layer of glass mat to it with polyester resin. Should be able to get another layer on this evening. Slow cure time with the cool temps these days (about 9 C).

Orange: I agree epoxy resin is best, for several reasons - I've used it on boats before. But the "experimental" nature of my car fabrication mods makes me want to keep the costs down. I'm never sure if they're going to turn out or not.

If you are having trouble finding a decent piece of cardboard, go to your local Tim Hortons, and find out what day the truck comes.

At the one I worked at, delivery day meant cans and cans full of broken down boxes taken out to the dumpster from restocking.

The boxes for the paper cups, ice capp cups, and cup lids, are huge and great for mods.

That's cause you're in Wisconsin, lol... sorry but you're missing out. You probably have Dunkin Donuts everywhere... pretty much the Canadian version of that.

Dangit, now I want a doughnut too. I'll have to get one after my half marathon tomorrow.

Looks like a great start to the new skirts! Sucks about the cooler weather killing the curing time. Once it hardens up enough, could you take it off and continue the process somewhere a bit warmer (basement, attic, garage) ?
