Nice work so far.

What's the diff from ?

Is it an easy swap ?

Will it pay for itself within 90 000 kms ?

The diff is from the 2.7l Ssangyong Rexton. Its a model bigger of my car.

If i save 10%. Then i save 500 euro over 90 000km.

So it depends on labor hours. And cost of the ring and pinion gear.

Did you source parts already ?
Are you having the job done ?
Did you check the sub elements are direct swap ?

Sorry about all the questions but I too have a tendency for ambitious projects that end up dead ends ...

At the moment i found 1 busines that is willing to do the change. Dont know where he will get his parts from, but i aim not getting an answere back yet. Maybe it is closed now for holiday or so.

Tomorrow i call a second busines that is specialised in my cars brand, and in diff revisions, so it could be possible that they want to do the swap also.

Hoping to keep the cost below 500 euro...

Side skirts, is it worth the time? What are the gains?
In the wiki i only found this:
Side skirt wiki

I can install a 5cm lower side skirt, make myself (2inch)

Here is a view of the side now: (first pic is not my car, but is same model)

A 1% gain would be a save of 0,05l/100km
Or an aditional range of (normal 1380km) 1400km (20km for free?)

Got reaction back.
They suggest to find a used diff of the Ssangyong Kyron the automatic gearbox version. They have a diff of 3,54.

Gives me these speeds.

Would be a reduction of 17,09%.
Or a save of 7%?

Time for finding a diff then.
Good luck with that.

Side skirts I thought it is more useful on lower vehicles but now I'm not so sure.

Edit :

remembered that side skirts have at least the added benefit of streamlining the rear wheels since air will not occupy that space after the front wheels made their way through it.

I aim probably going to install side skirts if i find the time for it.
Arround a 2inch skirt. (would be for summer 2016 )
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the diff story.
Thats probably a no go...

Prices ive got so far:

=> busines 1
asks 550 euro for the installation of another rear axle, but i need to bring that axle, and there are no garranties of al sensors and signals, spedo and so on works properly

2end hand axle starts from 800 euro to 1500 euro
Total price of 1350 to 2050 euro

=> busines 2
aks 2085 euro
Changes the diff gear ratio, gives garrantie that everything works right, even the speedo and odometer would work right (adjested to the change)

=> busines 3
says is no problem to do, but hasn't answerd back yet to know a price

=> busines 4
is the business that did my chip tuning and does all kind of mechanical adjustments like suspension, engine modifications, driveline changes bodywork, ...
No answer yet, but will be having one normally next week

Calculations are saying that if i drive 300 000km with my car, i have 180 000km left.

To earn the 2000 euro investment it needs to be a save of >19%
(looks not realy promising )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once i got answer back, if positive answer, then i will order this and some other stuff like relays and (a) switch(es). Then i have my coolant heater witch looks realy stock

Ok, I orderd the coolant heater, a switch, an 80A relay and a 60A fuse + holder

Total of 88,87€

And this is a good investmend!

I always have a long warm up time, even in summer!
@ 20 degrees Celcius air temps with full upper grill block: 20 minutes (16km) to go from 25 to 85 degrees Celcius coolant temps.
@ -5 degrees Celcius air temps with full upper grill block: 35 minutes (30 km) to go from 0 to 85 degrees Celcius coolant temps

Hopefully those 600W and aditional alternator load would help the warm up times.

Try only to use it down hills, in gear.

I had in mind that kind of price range.
At 100€ an hour, you can not really expect much less.
