well, you can guess my answer, haha.

in the family, we've had another explorer (a '94, lasted 300,000 miles with little maintenance) and the 1st gen taurus. i really liked the looks of that car, and it was really reliable.

Yeah, that's what I told him... and told him... and told him...

Like, two years later, he finally had somebody build him a squirter setup - shot a little gas into the ports on startup...

LoL! It's like "Cool Hand Luke"... Some men just can't be reached!

you know, i'm kinda surprised the Bronco II (my other vehicle, haha) wasn't on that list instead of the explorer. between consumer reports making it look like the worst vehicle ever made, and the fact that the explorer was just a re-badged bronco II (the explorer was longer and had a little bit bigger motor)

Ah, yes my '73 pinto. My first car with full air dam in front. Turbocharged in '74 to 14 psi. The old 1.6L cast iron Cortina engine never blinked. Smoked the tires in first and second. And smoked the clutch in third and fourth. Totalled in '75 on ice. Bought back and fixed and resold.

Not to be forgotten, The Corvair swing arm. The Vega cylinder lining. The Olds diesel crankshaft. The Bronco/Blazer center of gravity. The Chrysler minivan transmissions.

I started to vote no, then I remembered that we owned a 78 Pinto wagon, with a V6. It was an engineering marvel. It got 18 mpg. At 75,000 the timing gear, which was made out of plastic, shattered. That car had everything squeezed in so tight, it makes me tense just to think about it. What a pile.

My first car was an 84 Cavalier wagon, 2.0, automatic. My folks bought it in 85 with 60k on it. I always liked it and it was cheap so I got it when I started driving in 92. It went to 199k easy, I drove it everywhere. My dad overheated it pretty bad once from a bad radiator but it never blew the head gasket and still never used even a quart of oil in 3000 miles. Never touched the transmission and never had any problems. Had to do very little to it really, just a few electrical problems. It was getting really rusty so I bought the 6000 wagon in 96 and sold the Cavalier for $300. The lady drove it cross country and back and had no problems except a flat tire. Eventually I found it in the junkyard after being in an accident. Great car, I still miss it.
