I would recommend if time and traffic allow, coasting down to 20 or less if you can before applying brakes.

As a former boy racer...30 or so is about all I can manage.

I know I'm leaving mpg on the cutting room floor...but the slower you are coasting the less effect the higher mileage has on your avg anyway.

If I'm coasting up to a red light then I'll try to keep it moving as long as I can....and avoid stopping.

It's all sort of a compromise between getting there and mpg.

I agree

I have noticed the same thing in my auto trans Jeep Wrangler driving around Wichita. I had always attributed it to torque converter losses at low RPM's.

Compare it to walking. Then the perspective of the sheeple drops away
