DRL Kill Switch?

I found a good tutorial online to disable the DRL's on my '01 Cavalier.

I'm not that good with electronics so I hope this isn't a stupid idea. If I purchase a switch at Radio Shack, can I wire that so that I can switch the DRL's on and off, instead of doing a permanent off solution?

gamer_jim -

I just bent a pin on a relay for my car's lights (it's a Saturn-only mod). I keep a spare fuse in my trunk if I want/need to switch it back.

I also added a switch on my DRLs, but I DO switch them back on, during the day, in certain types of driving.

Question about what type of switch to use.

I don't know electronics that well so please forgive the ignorance.

I read this about switches:

http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/switch.htm

and from what I understand I need a SPDT, Single Pole Double Throw switch, is that correct? Because I want to either continue the blue wire circuit or switch it to the ground (if you followed the tutorial I linked in my OP).

I found this switch at Radio Shack that I really like:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search

but it is listed as a SPST. Will this not work for me? I do not like any of the SPST switches listed on RS's website. I'm trying to stay way from the mad-scientist look in my car as this may become my wife's primary car in the future.

Recommend any other places to buy or different switches?

Mine goes off with the parking brake engaged, so I did a "Redneck Fix" and grounded the parking brake wire so the DRL's are off but I will never know if my brakes are gone ;)

That's what I did too, Johnny. Except I put a switch in between the wire & ground. The parking brake light on the dash reminds me the DRLs are out.

This trick works only on 20th century Cavaliers. Newer ones will switch the DRLs back on if you exceed 5mph.

You need a switch that has 3 pins per pole.

Is that was is referred to as a SPDT switch?

Yes, and within that category, there are two and three position switches. Two positions simply switch between the two outer pins while three position switches have a center position that lets the center connection float. You want the former.
