welder-administered first aid begins
Supposed to rain this weekend, so what better time to get ready to spend some quality time in the garage with a warm welder.
Ready to go!
The trouble spots are the unibody arch over the front wheels, the rocker panels, and there are some spots in the floor to patch as well.
forward end of the driver's side rocker panel. Already been patched once...

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you... Except you'll have to actually do the cutting.

Yeah - anyone who's done rust repair knows the holes are going to get a lot bigger before the welding actually starts! Fun fun.
One bit of good news: the welding repairs done to the front control arm mounts a year or 2 ago are holding up just fine.

I wonder if it would be easier to measure the hard points and build a trellis to replace the infer fender area?
Stronger, lighter, etc... And man, that's bad...

I guess that car won't make it to Ottawa this weekend or even anytime soon!!
Reminds me of my Rocker Panels and Floor Pans on electricfly:
Electricfly - MyElectricfly.com
Not having a driveway, or a garage - I took it to a bodyshop - listed here:
Electricfly - MyElectricfly.com - Keele Auto Body (2); and they treated me well, and got rid of the Fred Flintstone floor Pans and gave the car some strength with new rocker panels/channels!
However - the car is not stainless steel - so rust is always alive! Robert

Hi Robert -
No, not going to EV Expo tomorrow. I will be snuggled up with a warm welder instead.
Trellis idea is interesting - maybe not lighter the way I make stuff, but worth considering. Will noodle on that tomorrow.

Oh, and I guess it's safe now to remove the air intake box/resonator that was hiding under the right fender, eh?
