Most of the time - 2nd gear, idle (or just above it).
Ben - I would never think this could go any further than the local newspaper... but I'm honestly waiting to click on CNN and see that goofy look you have plastered on my TV... I will seriously die laughing if that happens.

That's actually one of the most well-written newspaper stories I've read. Consider yourself blessed!
And they summed it up with the knucklehead quote! Priceless!

Among the various things I do for a living, I run video equipment for a local municipality part-part time.
Tonight, I was running camera for live broadcast of a Village Board Meeting.
As people were coming in, the Clerk, Treasurer, and a Board Member all commented how they saw me in the paper and laughed about it.
On the agenda for the meeting, item #4 was for a court report.
And guess who was there to give the court report? Yep! The same judge who had me in his court a few weeks ago!
He did come over and shake my hand. Then mentioned something about me to keep it under the legal limit.
I'm never gonna live this down.....

This is a great thread/story! My wife and I read the whole thing and were very entertained.
I have a Q on the newspaper article...it says your motorcycle will do 0-60 in 1 second...is that a typo?

They pulled that particular detail from the Killacycle, and mixed it up with his. Ben wouldn't be able to hang on if it was that quick! :-)

Yep, Intrigued has that right.
Also, in the newspaper with my article on the bottom of the front page - the caption under the photo of me in the car says that I am "showing off the homemade electric engine under the hood."
Note that this is the photo of me re-enacting my test-drive - with the original gasoline engine in the car.
Wow, I almost forgot what it looked like with the radiator and everything!

Yah, ya don't see too many electric cars with air filters and radiators
Killacycle...yah, that sounds about right. Saw a show on that recently where it was racing a gas powered drag bike. Pretty amazing the power coming out of that bike. btw, that reminds me...I have a great pic of a festiva EV in portangeles, wa at the track doing a HUGE smoke show burnout! Its an awesome pic, especially considering its an EV on top of being a festiva

I think I saw that Festiva on White Zombie's page at plasmaboyracing.com. Wayland is up in the Portland area, and has a seriously good looking blue Datsun 1200 ev as well as the White Zombie Datsun, which is a sister car to the blue one, but holds a bunch of ev drag records. On the Zombie's history page, which takes a couple of days to get through, you'll end up seeing a lot of the ev's in the area!

My whole li'l town has a maximum speed of 25, 20 through the center of town, 15 during school loading/unloading hours.
What drives me absolutely bonkers is when the people dropping off their kids will wait, and roll, and wait, and roll, until they can drop their kid off right at the walk leading up to the door. For a year or two there were about eight teachers out in front of the elementary school, they'd all step up and open doors on eight cars at a time, eight kids hop out, two in the middle walk straight in and the others walk as much as an extra fifty feet. That worked great, the line advanced at a tremendous pace for an unloading zone.
Middle school, not so much. 20 feet-pause-20 feet-pause. Idiots. Is it any wonder the kids are fat, the mileage abysmal, and the roads congested. Too much me-first, not enough you-too.

Exactly! Our opulence this nation has given us has spoiled us big time!
Given human nature, it's going to be difficult to overcome that, and may nearly ruin us before it's all over...
