EV possibility (cheap 1985 fiero)

These fieros seem pretty popular as conversions. I'm not ready to tackle a car yet, just FYI:

There's actually a ridiculously cheap ForkenSwift-style Fiero conversion being documented on DIY electric car right now. It's on the road:

ELECTROFIRE - Fiero + forklift components - DIY Electric Car Forums

He even started out at 48v (brave for a car of that weight), but eventually upped it to 72ish, I think. 72 seems to be the minimum the "normal" crazy EV converters are willing to tolerate.

Net cost is roughly $1k, I think.

Cool

These things are everywhere too. I know a small town junkyard with several Fieros and the guy living there owns one too. They're not old enough to rot away but no one wants them so they sit. Meanwhile Toyota's MR2 are highly sought after vehicles. A bit of automotive history in those cars. At least Fieros are getting some resurrection in the form of EVs. They can call EVers crazy but they're preserving or breathing new life in to many cars that are contemporary classics . EV hobbyists are to lightweight, compact cars what Hotrodders are to muscle cars.
