Finally bought a car to modify.

Been lurking for a little while and finally joined. Great site you have here.

I just bought the ugliest 1986 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 Diesel 5 speed and after reading some posts I will be installing an air dam tonight.

Hey! Herbie is drop dead sexy... In his own way.

Driving style will get you WAY over the EPA numbers. Look at my 3 fills, check out my thread. I haven't done much in the line of modding, mostly just fixing stuff so far.

These are EASY to work on, with some difficult points. If you're somewhat mechanically inclined, it can be very enjoyable and rewarding.

For the record, the first gen Golf in Europe was released as the Rabbit in the US. The moniker changes periodically through the US production history. Shown in the video is what we would recognize as a Rabbit GTI in the states.
