I have the 1998 D16Y7, with a 1993 CX transmission with the same tall gearing as the VX. No lean burn in my car. This is just moderate aeromods, moderate engine mods, fairly radical weight reduction, and dedicated hypermiling. I do alot of P&G, mixed with ultra low rpm light throttle steady cruising on flat sections of road where in fourth or fifth gear I can get 80+ mpg, with AFR readings showing a mixture leaned-out by as much as 25%.

See my car's mod & maintenance thread and my electric bicycle's thread for ongoing projects. I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.
