First stab at Hypermiling and Great Results

Over the past week I gave hypermiling a spin for the first time, it took a little bit of an adjustment at first, but man it has paid off already.

Adjustments I have made to the nut behind the wheel.

1) Graciously bowed down from left lane driving @ speeds of 70mph, dropped to middle lane and right lane driving @ speeds of 60-65mph

2) Started neutral coasting whenever safely and logically possible.

3) Began avoiding a few very long stop lights on my commute by simply taking an alternate side street route.

4) Checking air pressure every few days (Was driving @ 40PSi per tire, increased to 45psi today)

5) Scanning traffic ahead of me by 30 seconds to prepare my economical actions such as changing lanes, letting off the gas, or neutral coasting

Other adjustments:

Deleted stock mud flaps (Or whatever you call them, they were plastic stationary pieces that served the same purpose)

So with doing all of this, my MPG went from 32-34 to a whopping 43mpg!

I know it will get better, I am still adjusting to this new conservative way of driving. As for mods, I have ordered the stock Hybrid Civic smooth belly plates, I plan on getting the smooth non-vented Hybrid rims & Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires and the hybrid spoiler to test out. Once all of that is said and done, I plan to try removing the side mirrors and replacing them with interior ones.

Nice work! I found hypermiling to be a fun game I can play when I'm driving. It makes it a lot less boring, and I get to save money too.

Did you do a tank fill to find these results or do you have a scangauge? The SG makes it 100x easier and "more fun" because it's a per drive difference, not per tank!

Awesome! Definitely the right move. Being able to see the difference per drive VS per tank is HUGE! Heck, just to be able to monitor different engine sensors alone is worth it, IMO. Once you start grill blocking, watching coolant temps is definitely important. I'm still amazed at how little grill opening I need to keep the engine cool.

Again, good job and... good luck!
