First time over 57mpg

Today I went above 57 mpg over 400 miles. after reading about advancing the injection timing to improve mileage I did just that.

I pulled out the start cable and left it there. My engine starts instantly still runs in the same place on the gauge.

Congratulations. I advanced the timing too. It seemed to help me. Very modest advance: 2* maybe. Everyone warns about spark wear and such... so keep an eye on odd firing (knock and ping and such). BTW, what do you mean, though, when you say you pulled the start cable? You disabled the starter motor? I don't understand.

On my car there is a fuel injection advance cable that you pull to aid in starting it. I have just left it in the start position rather than push it in once running.

90% of my miles are fully loaded. Every vehicle that passes gives me a draft

I was able to back up my mileage with a second 400 mile run at the same mileage. I have kept the aero aspects of the Jetta the same for some time.

I put a stop on my fuel injection timing cable so that I can keep it partially out at a fixed point. I am going to run that way for a while.

With no computer monitoring fuel economy things take a while.
