Flat tail spoiler??

I'm not sure what to call this rear panel device - or if it has a name. I saw it on a diesel-powered Metro at the 2011 Green Grand Prix.

Question is, does it help? Sure is easy to put on the car.
What do you guys think??

That's a clear plastic panel, supported by a simple bracket at the center. The car is an X-Prize entry, by BITW Technologies. It scored 106 mpg at the GGP but I have no idea whether the rear plastic panel helped or hurt.

Driving Lean Burn '97 Civic HX, lotsa mods by now! '89 Volvo 240 is semi-retired. I did love that car though!

Brucepick! Thanks for the pic! We have a nice thread going on this topic right now:
Flat Bonneville-type spoiler

I'll post a link to this.

See the other thread. I joined that discussion and I figure it's probably best to have it all over there.

Thanks, Interesting entry. I went to the BITW website but they don't really give much information about the diesel engine swap from what I saw. The mpg figures suggest their aero mods must be helping to get the most out of the diesel.
