Fuel Prices 2009/12/29 vs Max Members Active

I was just sitting around the site, and noticed the highest rating we ever had. This was back before I was involved, but Dec. 29th, 2009, we had the most users of all time. I did a bit of investigating, and in Indianatown, FL, the price of fuel was 3.85. The only two petrol places in the area, there, are at 3.38 as of this morning.

I know a lot of factors can apply, but I just saw a trend there, and thought it cool. Fuel prices up, everyone wants to be an ecomodder, fuel prices go down (or we adjust to it) and people lose interest.

(Maybe not everyone wants to be an ecomodder, rather joins and looks around.)

...I would use the the wording "...(ab)normal drivers become complacent with it..." because ecomodders don't adjust, they tweek or mod (ha,ha)!

The oil companies learned a lesson with the 09 price spike. Let the prices spike then drop. After a few rounds then the public is Ok with a higher price as an average. When consumption dropped 10% and the tanks were full everywhere then the price plunged. I would not count on that happening again. Yesterday I bought gas for $3.179 a gallon, which seems cheap compared to $3.90 a short time ago, or $4.19 for alcohol free fuel in a different county.

i look on here everyday even though I am a strict hypermiler because i don't keep cars long enough for mods to be worth it. With that being said its nice to be able to use the correct hypermiling techniques when low on cash, low on fuel, or saving for another vehicle as i am at the moment

I agree

all oil comapies do is lower the price a few pennies after they raised it by a dollar and people seem to forget that it's still costing a lot of money to fill up a tank

...do the phrases "...jacking-up the prices..." and "...ratcheting-up the prices..." strike any sensitive nerves with anyone?
