Maybe on a badly adjusted starter. On a properly adjusted starter a flywheel should last a lifetime.

They will last a lifetime if you use an ICE engine the way it was designed, But we are talking shutting down at idle times, which increases your Wear Red lights etc. Mail trucks, and UPS trucks are proof that they do wear. The bigger the engine, the more wear. Just use your head when turning off, 10 seconds vs 3 mins sit time. I wouldn't shutdown at every red light. 3 to 4 times the normal Startups.
Things that also wear.
Ignition switch Fords
Key tumbler - Fords and Chevys are the worst some older toyotas you could just start with any key once worn.
Electrical system, Battery, Alt and wiring Excessive Wire Load
ECU's on off on cycling
Starter and Flywheel

Vehicles should include shutdowns at idle times without having a complete Hybrid system. In an ICE engine, but so far all designed to start once and idle at stops.
I've been in the field a long time and flywheel damage exists. An easy 1000 to 1500 dollar repair vs 100.00-400.00 for a new starter. This would include Replacing both if your flywheel does loose its teeth.
This is from my Experience and to say it will last a lifetime is inaccurate when you are restarting 2 to 3 times more over the life of a vehicle.

in my old car I used a GPS to replace my odometer and the GPS keeps track on moving and stopped time. I checked my fuel log and my average stopped time for a tank was 59mins. My old car idled around .3-.4 GPH my new car idles around .17 GPH unless the AC is on. If you know the light is long or the traffic isn't moving shut the car off.

Who in the northern states will be using engine-off-anything for the next few months? hmm? I've also noted my car doesn't like giving my key back if I turn it off in N. The key lock solenoid doesn't disengage. I'd rather have my key than extra money. I'll offset that by biking.

I won't, it's just gonna be too cold. If I want the car to reach operating temp during my comute I have to keep the engine running and put a decent amount of electrical load on it.

GPS tracking is a great tool when figuring in Sit time. NJ is about 50/50 which is horrid. The Timed Red lights in my city need to be setup ECO friendly but that cost money. There are so many thing on the road that could make a big impact on fuel usage.
