I didn't think it was a great idea, but it sounds like one you've considered.

We had 72-hours of off time before we left Danang AFB and flew over to "BASE-X", Takli,Thailand on TDY.
Smoke is great, and whenever I would see aerobatic aircraft or exhibition skydiving teams streaming smoke across the field of view,I knew it would dovetail well into road vehicle flow imaging.I just felt that it would need to be done in a controlled environment.
If I ever get desperate though,I do reserve the right to 'break an oil control ring',filling the wake with blue smoke, after which apologizing to all for the engine failure. Wink, wink!

I hear you can do a lot with 'blue smoke and mirrors'.

I read Catch 22 while I sat on my luggage waiting to fly out of Long Bihn Post back to the world.

The mirrors are the easy part. The challenge is explaining to the Highway Patrol why a chase car with video gear just happened to be nearby when the piston ring broke!
Glad you made it home.

3rd data set and new photo

I've gone back into the 1st permalink and added some amended data which I ground out this last week.I also added some comparative data for brake horsepower vs top speeds of selected pickups and SUVs of similar power, and some just to show the amount of power necessary to move these beasts.
Finally,I posted a photo of the truck after completion of all the passes.
You can see the added grille-block however the cowl fairing is gone,as I'm shortly to leave the salt on my way continuing west.
Wheel covers are off for the duration of the trip and the tires are at 40 psi.
I wrenched my back at my pit and was modifying physical activity to minimize straining. At three weeks on,I'm still not over the injury.
I slid by okay with the hernia, but it has progressed so much, working, that I'm in the pipeline for repair surgery.

Phil,
1. Ouch! Get well soon.
2. Your T100 all dolled up for aerobatics seems a Mercedes poser.

Thanks Bob.
1.The surgery I had a dozen years ago has held up well and I don't anticipate any trouble when the other side is done.Everyone be careful lifting!
2.that would be a compliment.Daimler-Benz has known their way around the aero lab since the 1920s and they've created some delicious technology from which to mimic.

darcane,I appreciate you sharing the photo, and would you please give your friend a thanks for me.
I never managed to remember a photo of the passenger side, with the only front basjoos-esque wheel skirt.
Ah yes,the joys of microencephaly!

Drag Factors

I've added in a list of Comparative Drag Factors in #1 permalink.
From the table you can get a sense for how 'low' some others have already gone, and how the T-100 stacks up against some well, and lesser-known vehicles which have been tested and reported on.
I'll continue to chip way at quanta.
I've perused acceleration data for dozens and dozens of cars and it looks like putting the T-100 in the 130 Club would require about 210 available horsepower. For the 150 Club I'd be looking in the neighborhood of 300 hp.
This isn't a direction I'm interested in going and I've pretty much convinced myself that the A2 Wind Tunnel in Mooresville,North Carolina should be my next destination. They have load cells for force measurements and I'm comfortable with the frontal area I came up with.I should be able to get the actual Cd and also blow smoke all over the truck,video-graphing the whole thing for You-Tube.
I'll send a note off the their General Manager,Dave Salazar, and see if they can shoot me a dollar figure to think about over the coming months.
I want to know the top speed of the truck, but I really want to know the Cd.
Cd 0.16,from the GM mpg method is 'interesting',a measured Cd from a real lab would be a nice comparison. And it would be worth a lot.
