Ghetto Tonneau Cover

This is my '95 Nissan pickup with the infamous KA24E engine. My ghetto tonneau cover I made wit hthe wood paneling from some crappy shelves that the previous homeowner installed. I figured I'd recycle the materials to save me some cash. I've tried grill blocking and it failed miserably. In any weather over 60F, it would run way too hot. I will let you guys know my results.

yeah wax it to protect it nice idea though

i was going to do this to my hardbody as well except use black coroplast. im not sure i would use screws the way it looks like you did. bolts maybe to make it removable. also you should remove your rear chrome bumper thing(weighs a ton) since you wont be loading anything anytime soon.

I would slap a coat of paint on it to waterproof somewhat though.

I was thinking rustoleum or duct tape. Alternating between silver and black. I have plenty of it laying around.

Drywall screws are what I had, so that's what I used. I'm not really thinking of removing it anytime soon. I don't have anything to replace the bumper with, so that'll have to stay. I did pull out my really thick bead liner. It's made up of old tires and is about an inch thick. It probably weighs more than a hundred pounds. I'm a fairly big guy (6'4" 185lbs) and I had to wrestle with it to get it out.

I installed this with a half tank of fuel. I will check the mileage then and then again with a full tank of gas. Also, before my next refuel, I will be replacing the air filter and fuel filter.

I really should be driving my '93 Civic more, but it is uncomfortable for me to drive and difficult to get in and out of. Last time I drove it I managed to eek out 40mpg. I think that's pretty impressive since it has a spoiler, sun roof deflector and 189,992 miles.
