Good looking gauge w/ serial port

Hi,

I just joined an EV GoogleGroup called ChargeCar, and one of the people there has made an excellent looking in-dash gauge that has a serial port for connecting to a laptop:

Here's his web page:

Een-tay-rest-ink! He's using the Scantool software, so he's using an OBDII interface box (the ELM327 chip) like the ones from scantool.net. I rerolled that software for my Saturn for datalogging.

I wonder what his MPG algorithm is. If he has a MAF sensor, it's easy. Otherwise, it's really hard without an MPGuino.

Nice find!

I recognized that scan tool software too.

I bought an ELM OBD2 thinger a couple of years ago, but never ended up using it. Found having to bring the laptop along for the ride was a downside.

He is involved at Carnegie Mellon in the EV project they have: Carnegie Mellon customizing electric cars for cost-effective urban commuting

I found it after signing on to the ChargeCar GoogleGroup: http://groups.google.com/group/chargecar?hl=en
