Exclamation Grill blocks and under hood temps...

Fer you that have blocked yer grills...how much has yer under the hood temps risen? Has it affected yer starting battery life/performance? Have you thought about venting/insulating the starting battery so that the temps aren't too high to affect it?

I know that a battery life over time will drop fer temps above 80°F.

Depends on where you are. Around here, there's no way my battery is being exposed to 80F this time of year.

Blocking my grill (bumper) was one of my best mods. My car warms up faster, but it does not run hotter. It also helped increase aerodynamics.

I think the concern is the temp of the engine bay accessories?

Especially if its the ECU...

ECU is usually located in a dry environment...like the interior of the vehicle.

Gonna run a meat themometer and see how warm it gits under my hood without and then with the grill block(s). Curious to know how many have done this sort of measurement with their grill blocks...

Gonna be hard to monitor a meat thermometer while you're driving. But you could get a cheap indoor/outdoor thermometer and place the sensor anywhere you want under the hood, and monitor that from the cockpit.

The digital meat thermometer I have has a high/low temperature memory...so I don't have to constantly watch the temp. The probe can be extended with a simple headphone extension cable.

My Paseo has a full grill block, sucks intake air from the engine bay, and I still added a warm air intake to it to increase intake air temps. So, it didn't raise temps that much on my car. I have more grill blocked than most too.

When I blocked my top grille, I add a piece of clear flimsy plastic (an old file folder) on the inside of the lower grille to the front side of the radiator.
The red hand cut arrows show the air coming in and the yellow construction paper is laying ontop of the clear plastic.
the idea is that as the air races in and hits the bottom of the radiator, it is 99% forced up, then sucked thru the radiator when the fan kicks on and as it continues up, it goes thru the factory slots to then feed air to the factory air intake that sits across the front of the top of the radiator.

now all this may be a mute point when it's 105 degrees this summer in Sacramento!!!!
