Heartwarming Story

This evening after leaving work... for the second time (I had to go back and yell at some people) I was stopped at a light, when the light turned green I heard an engine start. It made me smile and I looked around to see who it was but couldn't tell, I thought it was the car in front of me. I went to the next light, this time I killed my engine (I knew this light was a longer wait) when the light turned green the guy next to me fired up his engine (same guy). It made me smile that somebody else was trying to save a little gas at stop lights.

Now, the fun part of the story, guess what kind of car it was.... anybody... anybody at all? It was an early 2k Corvette convertible. I was glad to see somebody driving a high performance car still trying to save a little gas at stop lights, every little bit helps.

the vettes do something unusual with fuel economy, as some bizarre net vids have revealed thier magical 30mpg powers.Owner probably thinks its an ecomod from GM..

Well, theres no denying vettes are pretty aerodynamic, plus theyre geared so high the rpms stay pretty low. Not hard to get 30 mpg out of something like that. My dad has easily gotten 30 mpg on the highway in his lincoln mark viii before. Some cars are just geared for highway.

A car thatll go nearly 200 mph has gotta be geared appropriately. Run it at light load in top gear at a much lower speed and the mpgs will go up. The big V8 should have no problems keeping up the torque.

The engine used in 97-04 vettes (the LS1) is known for delivering very impressive mileage for a large displacement engine. It was used in the F-body cars (Firebirds and Camaros) from 98-02 and some owners with the six speed manual report getting around 30 mpg highway. 3,500 pound cars no less.
