Hello from Alaska

I live in rural Alaska. It's 33 miles from my cabin to the small town where I work. I added a small ATV motor to a recumbent 3-wheel bicycle for my summer commute. I get over 150 mpg, and cruise at 35 - 40 mph. I look forward to learning ways to improve my mileage.

That three wheeler is sweet!

If you made an aerodynamic shell, like this, around it you could vastly improve your MPGs.

Cool! Welcome to the site. It sounds like you have a neat setup. I lived in Anchorage from 1977-1983, and drove through Haines on the way up and back.

A full aerodynamic fairing would help greatly.
Wheel covers that cover the spokes should help a bit too.
They're often used on velomobiles in Europe.

When I built the trike, I settled for just the Windwrap because I wanted it to be very clear to any observer that it is a motor-assisted bike. Now that the local police have become comfortable with that idea, perhaps it's time to think about a more complete fairing.

It would also protect you from the wind.

Cool to see another Alaskan on here. I am in the Mat-Su area, I have spent a fair bit of time down in south east and my wife was born in Haines.

Very nice !

I love the trike. I'd like to see and read more detail about it if you would.

Thanks

Ed, my trike build is detailed at Motoredbikes.com (I'm not allowed to post a link yet). Do a search there for Tadpole Trike.
It is a pretty long thread. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Weather Spotter, I'll try to get there when I find the time. Today I got 3' of snow, so most of my spare time for a while will be spent on the end of a shovel.
