Hello everyone

Hello everyone,
I drive a 1998 4runner, but I am trying to make the most of it. Last year I drove 8 miles each way for work on surface streets and was only getting 15mpg so I built an electric assisted bike and put 800 miles on it. Charging it only costs 6 cents a night... 6 cents is pretty good for a 17 mile round trip. This year I work 23 miles away from home and can only take the freeway so the bike is not an option.

I am now averaging 20 MPG and want more so I have ordered a ScanGaugeII. I also put in a K&N replacement filter and that helped a little. I can't wait to get it, I want more MPG. Someday I will buy a more fuel efficient car, but I don't think it will be soon, I haven't had a car payment in many years. When I do get a new car, it will probably be a Golf TDI. They are due to the US next year, but perhaps if I wait a little longer they might bring the Golf Blue Motion (smaller TDI engine) and it gets 61 MPG.

Thanks for reading this,

If anyone has any suggestions of what I can do to improve my MPG on my 4Runner, please let me know.

Welcome to the site.

Since you drive so much highway, aeromods will be your biggest gains besides driving technique changes. See the two lists at the top of the page for hypermiling tips and a mods list.

Does anyone have any Idea what the CD would be on a 98 4Runner?

Nope, but if you find out, add it to the wiki: Vehicle Coefficient of Drag List - EcoModder
