Hello from NY, new to the forum

Hi, Im new to the forum but have been lurking around for a while. My names Nick im an RN from upstate NY. I currently own a 93 metro xfi that I have just gotten up and running. I have owned a total of 17 metros over the years. Some I fixed up and sold, some I just bought and sold, some I drove for a period. I live in a small remote town in the adirondacks and we need to drive atleast 40 miles to the first traffic light so I quickly found the value in a geo metro. Over the last 3 years my wife has driven 90 miles a day to work and I was going to school and drove 85 miles a day. We worked opposite shifts so we drove the same geo metro every day, racking up around 900 miles/week. With 192,800 miles on it that metro finally bit the dust last week when (yup you guesed it) the frame broke in the front and the half shaft pulled out of the tranny. Motor runs like the day it was new, perfect!!

I have been looking for an xfi for years but have never found one close enough to get. I finally picked one up for $1200 and am just finishing up fixing it all up. That car will replace the old metro as soon as possible. Now I work in town so only my wife is driving but its still 100 miles/ day 6 days a week so the xfi will really help us save some money.

I also currently own a 91 metro convertible that I bought off the original owner with only 85k miles on it. Its completely rust free and has never seen snow. She said it had only been driven in the rain a hand full of times. It has a couple small dents on one front fender and one rear fender. Only thing I dont like is it is an automatic tranny. It shifts perfect but I just dont want an automatic so that one is going on ebay this spring.

look forward to getting to know everyone....

lol, not at the same time though.... I think I only ever had 3 or 4 at one time.

I get picked on all the time by my pickup truck driving buddies. Im 6'6" 280 lbs and I would rather drive a metro than any other vehicle. love my metros...

I know how you feel. I fell in love in April 2008 when I got mine, yet 10 years ago I would have happily ran one over with my Dodge Ram just for fun

Hi Nick - welcome to the forum.

17 Metros is pretty hardcore! I owned 6 old VW Rabbits through high school & university, and I thought that was a bit nutty

I've only owned 4 Metros/clones since deciding to hang out at the bottom of the automotive food chain.

You should take the engine from the metro that broke and throw it in that xfi - that will fix the automatic tranny issue. At the very least you shluld check this out too: Geo Metro convertible / Kubota diesel engine conversion (driving!)

The xfi has the standard tranny allready, I considered putting the engine and tranny from the broken metro in the convertible to get rid of the auto but the convertibel has 85k on it and the broke metro has 192k, I hate to replace an engine with one that has more than twice the miles on it. so I thought about just swapping trannys but decided to sell the broken metro for what I could get out of it and then this spring I will sell the convertible too. I really dont need it since I have the xfi now and my wife is the only one driving long distance. I now work less than 2 miles from my house, I ride my sled in the winter and my yamaha rhino in the summer, in between I drive my ultimate gas guzzler, 93 dodge ram 3/4 ton with a 360 v8 sporting approximately 11mpg (thats 5 trips to work for one gallon of gas)...
