Ladder Transporting Hack That Will Have You Saying "Golly"

I'm a cheap skate....er very frugal. When I used to carry my extension ladder, I cut down 2 2x4's to fit in the stake holes on the 2000 GMC. Then I'd place the ladder on the top of the 2x4's nestled in the ladder channel side rail. Then I wrapped a long ratchet strap around the ladder to hold it down. Boom. Prolly not the most "aero" thing ever, but it got the ladder to and fro, and cost near nothing. The tension on the strap kept everything together with no fasteners required. It just took me longer to draw this illustration than it did to modify the studs.

I looked for the thread but failed to find it. :/

What I do: throw the dang thing in the box, gate up. The mpg loss got lost in the noise of the varying environmental conditions anyway.

Sold the truck 4 years ago. The Ladder of mine is 14'6" not extended, so throwing it in the back was not an option really.

HA! I'm surprised you remembered that. I've actually done it twice. Both times it was lightweight masts - one AL, one fibreglass.

Much easier technique with a pickup than a Firefly. (Ground clearance & getting things mounted).

Just have to be aware of approach/departure angle situations if it's longer than the car. (It was.)
