hi from lowell ma

hey i am an engineer by training and i just picked up a 2004 hyundai elantra. looking forward to doing some mods to it. already replaced the spark plugs.

state inspectors say i need new tires! so i need 195/R15... should I go with Michelins for fuel economy?

Hello and welcome to EM.

Yeah, I'd recommend the Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires. As far as I've read, these are the best tires out there as of now. They scored pretty good in comparison to other tires as well. Tire Rack has a good comparison of LRR (low rolling resistance) tires here:

Thanks, I looked around and got a good deal at Sears on Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires. Didn't alter the tire pressure from the Sears install and I already notice a gain of 2 to 4 mpg!

Possible next steps (might do a controlled test this time):

a) increase tire pressure
b) smooth wheel covers
c) partial front grille block
d) rear wiper blade delete
e) reduce air gaps around lights, hood, etc.

I will post a pic of the vehicle in my next post... I don't have enough posts yet to do it!
