That picture makes it so much easier to explain the need behind the Tata Nano...

It's not supposed to necessarily be a safe car.... It's supposed to be a safe alternative to 8 people on a motor bike...

That's Nano's raison d'etre, to provide a modicum of basic safety, comfort & affordability for the emerging third world drivers/consumers. There are two/three-wheel scooters that already fulfill this need but the Nano gives the extra stability and importantly some acceptance & viability to crossover into the first world markets. Since Yugo is ancient history & the Koreans have moved upscale, the Chinese 'Henry Ford' entrepreneurs & Mr. Tata will now battle for the ultimate entry level (biggest) world market leadership.

Eight in a nano?

Room on the roof for a couple more too!

I consistently saw 3 or 4 people riding 1 bike in SE Asia, sometimes 5 but never 8...that must be a long motorcycle...

Absolutely, but only after a roof rack is installed.

If those guys can get 8 on a Super Cub, they could probably get about 30 on this one!

Have you seen the one with a guy hauling a large overloaded trailer using a bicycle?
