i took the liberty of finding a pic...

my advice is not to get smaller tires but maybe something a bit skinnier if youre trying to get more mpg. thats a nice truck and if 4x4 you deffinatly dont want to lower it. hopefully some of the truck guys can chimb in w their experience.

its not like what you have heard about it...malaysia divided to 14 states and i come from sabah state that located between south china sea. In my state, most of road look like not built as what road built in peninsular of malaysia and that's why we like to use 4 wheel drive than other.

I got a diesel engine from a Surf...a 1KTZE 3.0 liter turbo diesel and put it in my American 4runner. I love the Toyota Hilux and Hilux surf. Definately get skinnier tires but dont get smaller diameter tires. You could also turn down the fuel and turn up the boost a little. Try shedding some weight, possibly the spare if you are just around town. You can also block off the egr tube somehow, its on all of the Australian Hilux websites, but I am unsure how to do it. It is supposed to help with gas mileage and power.

If you search this forum for posts on tire width, you will find that wider tires have lower rolling resistance. This would be especially true for heavier and slower vehicles where the drag penalty from the increased frontal area is less.

I'm fitting wider tires on my L200 next week going from 245/65 to 275/65. Not the same type and diameter though so my results will not be easy to correlate.
