Honda Civic VX: 60 MPH 60 MPG

Last week on a hwy road trip I am happy to report new personal best 60.4 mpg at 60 mph. This was done on mountain hwy roads of western nc monitoring the vacuum gauge with no other mods or hypermile tricks. Before this my best was 55.3 mpg.I think the difference is understanding and adjusting my driving habbits better in the dead gas peddle zone of lean burn.

Nice! 60mpg @ 60mph feels great. How warm is it in the Carolinas?

Keeping it in lean burn is a must for good fuel economy. LBN and DWL go very well together.

I had a couple of trips to Va Tech that got me 60 + in my VX, and one in the CVT Insight that was 70.5 MPG. Both were over 500 miles, the Insight was over 600 on less than 9.5 gallons of E10.

Nice! happy to be a vx owner. My trip was 350 miles. Weather temp here is in the 70's

Been trying to get 60 at 60 for I while now but I guess I need more Aero mods. My calibrated MPGuino gives me 57 mpg at 60 mph ( GPS speed ,0 wind ,level road, 70's temps. I find that 63 mpg is no problem at 55 mph but 60 at 60 is MUCH harder to achieve with my vx
What can an Insight do at 60 mph with a level road and zero wind ?

That's nice.
Has your vx a manual or a cvt-transmission?

The Civic VX, at least in the USA only came with a 5 speed manual and enough torque from the engine that you can drive on a flat road at 35mph in 5th gear.

On a hot day, with the headlights off, probably 90mpg. In winter, with winter tires, probably more like 65mpg.

Or lean-burn engine's are also equiped with a manual.
In europe we have a 1.5L (d15z6) with lean-burn vtec-e with a 84,5mm stroke, the US lean-burn VX 1.6L (d16...) got a 90mm stroke so we're missing a bit of torque low down.
Little low down torque in combination with the tall gearing makes it hard to stay in lean-burn while accelerating. (if you not want to create a huge traffic jam)

And for the europian market (as for as i'm aware) there were no coupé civic equiped with a lean-burn engine.
But in all other modells were avalable with the 1.5L (d15z6) lean-burn, thus the hatchback, sedan and the station (called aero)
