That study doesn't take into account the popularity or number of those vehicles on the road relative to others... It just says:

OK, 100 Civics were stolen today, and only 30 Metros... CIVICS ARE THE MOST STOLEN CARS IN THE WORLD!111!!!!!1!!!

Take into account the rarity of each of those cars, and you'll quickly figure out that the Metro's sales figures would make IT the more likely candidate to get stolen.

Unfortunately, in all aspects other than relative price, Civics are 12/$0.10.

Ah yes, didn't think about that. That makes me feel better, except for the fact that I'm driving a Geo.

I'm not sure if you can look at it like that. The % of Metros stolen is greater, but there are less of them...hmmm

That's the point... it's not that Civics are stolen because they're Civics - it's just that they're easy targets. (Not always the case, obviously.)

I'd bet that the average person who owns a Civic has some "performance"(robbing) parts on it. Thieves are banking on that theory, for the most part. The OEM parts have a decent value too, but aftermarket is the motive.

Maybe the Metro was a bad comparo, but it illustrated the point I was trying to make about those studies, that they don't take all the factors into account.

That's funny. I always thought my Geo Metro was theft proof, just based on the fact that it was I Geo Metro.

Seriously though, my old Geo was so trashed it was basically impervious to theives.

I voted for Vx because I am more into performance, my vx can out maneuver and out brake most cars on the road, and it still gets better mpg with all of these parts then pretty much every car on the road, AND it looks much better wider and lower than the geo metro with the appropriate japanese and some aftermarket parts. I can get very cheap aftermarket and practically free vx parts from local honda forsale forums. Honda also is the worlds largest internal combustion engine manufacture in the world, it goes to show you that they have to be doing something right. The Civic Vx,Hx and CRX Hf will no doubt be collectors items in the near future WHEN fuel skyrockets.
