The internal combustion engine still has a lot of advancing to do before its completely discarded, for sure.

I don't see this technology ever making it to market though. Special pressured oil line through the crankshaft, rod, wrist pin and finally into the piston to actuate the VCR, with a separate external (in this case) oil pump? Pretty neat just that anyone ever pulls it off in a prototype test engine. This is not a new idea, but kudos for Honda to keep it alive and kicking. They should combine this idea with the variable stroke length concept:

Yeah as I was saying I think this was an initial scale test to decide if its worthy of more investigation or not. Looks like the answer is to test whether or not the system has survivability and manufacturing cost

Deezler looks like you beat me too it. Definitely sounds way too complicated to put in mass market. Who knows they might drop a new HF on us with variable stroke length, compression, timing, GDI, and ultra-lean burn.

That would be a Christmas to remember!
