I found a few '00 model insights for around $5k - $6k and I'm talking to my dad this weekend about possibly trading in my Camry for one since the Camry has been having a lot of maintenance issues just due to it's age and I am trying to convince him that the increase in fuel efficiency is worth it for both myself and him since if it benefits him he's more likely to go for it. We will see how it goes, but again, thanks for the info, I want to be as informed about this going into it as I can so I can present a good bit of info for him.

I'd just like to point out, and you probably know this, but definitly get a 5 speed manual transmission as they have the learn burn. The automatics don't, and thus get much worse mileage.

Yea, I was definitely planning on getting the 5spd model. I'm going out this weekend to some of the Honda dealerships in the area as well to see if any of them have gotten some insights as trade-ins recently and have them up for real cheap. Is there anything to note about hybrids with high millage? Is there even any data as to the effects of higher millage on the components of hybrids? I'm sure the batteries should be replaced, but what other parts are known to go bad over time with these?

Mostly directed at budomove, what have you had to do towards your '00 in terms of servicing and maintenance recently if any?

go to insightcentral.

cleaned egr
flushed tranny
adjusted valves
changed plugs

watch for a grindy/hesitant to shift transmission, that is the deal breaker on the insight. the synchros in the trans wear easily, and the clutch is not as durable.

Here is a write up on the insight. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...s_by_make.html

After adjusting the "toe" to give the car a more stable feel. They lost some FE.

That Car and Driver long-term review of the Insight was in 2002: C & D was using $1.15 per gallon as the cost of gas. It wasn't THAT low then, was it?

More like maybe $1.50?

thanks for the link
