If you go by crashes/dollar, Harley would look safer statistically.

Honda announced they will be shifting motorcycle production from Marysville OH back to Japan so they can make auto components at Marysville. So much for the American-made Gold Wings and Runes.

And from what I've seen of Harly's that I helped work on... they tend to blow engine seals, go thru bearings, and shake them selves to death!
These are insignificant costs, compared to that harley sound!
/sarcasm

Does that 30mpg include oil consumption or no?

The restructuring of the Marysville Motorcycle Plant will lead to increased parts production for cars and light trucks. The activities at the Marysville plant and Hamamatsu factory will be consolidated in the new Kumamoto plant. Overall, this will increase Honda's total U.S. parts count, not the other way around as your post implies. Gold Wings, VTXs and such have been manufactured in Marysville since 1979 so no "support U.S. vs. Japanese workforce" argument will fly.

They are also doing this restructuring WITHOUT laying off a single employee; quite an underrated achievement. When looking at American manufacturer's woes with the UAW, strikes, part shortages and component manufacturers filing for bankruptcy, Honda is doing more to help the American workforce than any American automaker is.
