How about a Ford Swift ?

Hey folks! I've got this crazy idea that I can hammer, weld, shape and shoehorn a 98 Merc Mystique engine and trans into my 98 Swift. I figure it will be a two year project if it takes place.
However I need to know if the Swift has a separate air bag system so that when I install the Mystique wiring and brains I will also have airbags ?
For you who ask why would I do this? Why not? It'll be fun and one of a kind.
Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Sure, anything can be done with enough time and money...

I'd personally be more impressed if you put a G10 into the Mystique.

Sorry if this was less than helpful.

Oh, well, that makes a difference.

Is this the 2.5L V6, or the Zetec 4 cylinder?

Because it'll get worse mileage, aka the exact opposite of what we're all here to achieve.

This is where I'm torn, Daox.

It might get worse mileage, Daox, but many of us also hold the belief that it's more eco-friendly to use what you have rather than buy again, and that's exactly what he's doing.

I can't say I support it, but I can't knock it, either. At least not without a bunch more details.

Yeah, it would be a ton of work for negative gain. You'd be better off to sell what you have, and put an interesting engine (lean burn Honda? TDI?) into an interesting, lightweight, aerodynamic car (Mazda MX3?)

But to answer one of your questions, when Honda does airbags, the airbag system is totally independent of the rest of the car's wiring. If Suzuki does it the same way, you just leave all the airbag parts in place, and the Swift won't care if it's powered by a 20 mule team, as long as it has a 12V source and the key is in ON, the airbags work fine.

Is the swift engine shot? If so, rebuild it and just sell the mystique engine. Even if it has no engine, it would be a better idea to sell the mystique engine and buy another swift engine.
