Why would an ecomodder have a friend with a roof rack?

Sometimes you gotta use the term "friend" loosely...

Duct tape it to the top edge of the windshield and let it hang off the back?

I guess you could run a couple of strips of duct tape from the back down to the car to keep it from flapping but where would the fun in that be

I have seen people haul mattresses home strapped to the top so maybe put your mattress on the roof before going to get it

Unfortunately I need a sheet 4x8. So all the cut and fold methods are out of the question

I know I need about exactly 8 feet wide, and probably 2-3 feet tall. I plan on doing this:

(It's just transparent so you can see where the car is behind it)

I had a 3 seater couch on the roof of my Tempo in college, you can manage a 4x8 sheet of coroplast. A little string and some braces and you could have an awesome tear-drop roofline going there

yeah you can fit that on there, my buddy had a taurus just like yours, and when we moved him out of college we took a couch that was almost as long as the car home on it, rope and duct tape. that was a 4hr drive from lower NH to upper VT with interstate driving and such. He had a roof rack, but that was a giant couch, not a thin sheet, go slow and be fine.
I took 2 couches around for a week on my old cherokee cause I had nowhere better to put them.

Yes it does, but the opening is only about 3 feet wide and a foot tall.

If the Taurus has a roof rack, then it must have been a station wagon. Sedans never got roof racks. My concern with putting it on the roof is blocking the taillights and rear window.

no, aftermarket roofrack. my buddy bikes almost as much as he drives, and kayaks a ton, a good strudy roofrack keeps in a sedan instead of a truck.
and dont worry too terribly much about the tail lights. if you need it 8' then you DONT need it 4', your car is not that big. cut it down the center, let it stick out the trunk, and drive home, easy peasy done

I don't want to cut it at the store, because I plan on cutting it like this: (see first attachment) so that it will be angled like this: (see second attachment)
