How much do you pay for the Internet?
 

If you happen to not use American dollars, some kind of conversion would be extremely helpful. Also, do you pay extra for faster transfer speeds, grass-fed vegan Internet, or anything?

I rented a room for four years and paid $318 monthly for everything. The Internet here is in a roommate's name. Last night she told me the other guys have paid her $25 a month for the past four months. My supervisor says she just upgraded her Internet from $65 a month to $85. Mom pays around $75.

My roommate mentioned he has been paying her $20 and the landlord said he paid her twenty also.

Why did she lie to me? What if I pay her $80 and she holds the Internet ransom?

By the way, I have unlimited data, and finally got tethering to work, but it is slow!

Negotiate, tell her you can do $20 per month. See if she gets the hint.

She's only revoking her net neutrality. Get used to it.

Historically I have paid $30/mo. There are only 2 reasonable options where I live; Comcast cable and CenturyLink DSL. The speed is roughly 30Mbps download.

Every year I swap companies to remain in the promotional period. Anyone paying more is a sucker. The "loyal" customer gets the privilege of paying more than someone who has just signed on.

I separate my modem from WiFi router so that nothing needs to change except the modem when I do my annual switch. Sometimes they give me an extra year at the promotional rate, but often they don't, and I have no tolerance for not getting the lowest price offered.

Currently work pays $50 for my Comcast 30/5 Mbps connection at my house. I include everything in my roommates rent to keep things simple and predictable for them.

Wave cable internet is included in my appartment rent. The speed varies based on usage from others. As of right this moment, this is what I'm getting:

Utilities need to be spelled out prior to moving in somewhere. I'd also watch your stuff if you're living with a dishonest roommate. Maybe you should get a $30 internet service and charge roommates $15 each to undercut the lying roommate. Better yet, rent a whole house and choose your own roommates so you aren't stuck with losers.

There is only 1 land based option, and it's expensive.

I have Comcast, we pay $65 for their basic cable (which we don't use but had to have to bundle the internet and get the promo rate) and 75mbps internet. We consistently get 90mb down and 12 up. They over-provision by 20%, so we are only paying for 75/10.

We could do with half the speed but the price isn't really much cheaper.

I think only CenturyLink was available when I had my own apartment. It looks like they charged me $20 a month during the promotional period and then $45. Where I used to live, we had Cox Cable Internet, but CenturyLink was also available. I believe that CenturyLink charged at least as much as Cox, but for 30 Mbps.

I forget how much Cox charged, but part of the reason that I took this job and moved was because Cox decided they were going to charge extra for using more than one terabyte each month, and with eight guys in two duplexes, we managed to go over. The landlord said he was raising the rent to upgrade the Internet. Supposedly, we went from 50 Mbps to 100, but not only was it not reliably fast, it was not reliable at all.

The Internet here seemed slow when it was first connected, but it definitely works better than at my old place.

I just got 32 Mbps up and down.

While I think that my 10x10 room is overpriced (apparently $415 with the Internet), my supervisor rents a room for $750, and almost all of the houses in this city have the same floorplan, so she said his room is probably the same size as mine. She keeps saying he thinks it is a great price.

Yes, it is a whole 6% better than his last place, which charged $800 monthly.

If I could purchase one of these houses (and conjure a 20% down payment), I would pay $735 for the mortgage, and if I rented out one room for $750, hmm... math...

They are three bedrooms, though. If I could get a mortgage with the same interest rate, but with zero down, it would be $1,100 a month. Two roommates would give $400 towards mortgage insurance and utilities.

I love working at the school and I am always happy to see my students. I enjoy seeing the other kids, too, but hopefully I can get a job near Show Low, and will also enjoy that. Then I would not need to drive five hours each way each weekend to make sure that Mom is okay and if she had an emergency during the week, I would not be five hours away.

If not, hopefully I can get a job back in the valley, where I will be an hour and a half closer to her and my brother, and approximately five hours closer to:

My choices:

Dial-up - When I had it, I was getting about half of 56k speeds for about $12 a month. A lot of sites would just never fully load.

Wireless - I currently have a hotspot through Straight Talk. I pay either $15 for 1GB/30 days or $40 for 4GB/60 days. Can be very slow at peak times and I really have to watch data usage.

Satellite - About $70 a month, had a data limit the last time I checked. Too expensive.

Cable and DSL are not available where I live.

I would love to pay $5 for 56k. It's all I need.
