how tough is 40mpg?

Yeah, it depends on what you drive. With the Insight, to get less than 40 mpg I have to be driving up a mountain road. And of course I use little or no gas on the downhill, so the round-trip average is still north of 70 mpg :-)

My girlfriend and I average 40mpg together, 20+20=40 right?

Only FE EGR experience I have indicates that EGR is worth 2 mpg on a 20 mpg car (10%). (Eliminating EGR drops it down to 18).

That said I Just had a Record Worst tank. 41.5 MPG Towing 100% of the time, mostly highway. About 300 Miles towing 1000 Lbs Lawn tractor, about 100 Miles towing Tower sections (maybe 300 lbs; but tons of aero load); About 100 Miles towing an empty trailer; and about 250 miles pulling my boat.

Still about double the FE of the Supra (MKIII) I'm driving otherwise.
