Optimize your commute

I'm usually the last one to know, but I found this on Wired.com. I don't do code, but someone here might be able to use it and let us know if it is worth anything.

That was a pretty good read. Thank you.

The real trick is, in my opinion, avoiding rush hour (for us poor dense urban fellows). I have seen consumption as high as 40l/100km when stuck in terrible traffic. (Primestealer decided to visit my city and a football match coincided).

In my case traffic really is the primary factor in fuel consumption. Same road, no traffic at 3 am and full throttle very very easily trumps crawling and stop and go traffic at 5:30 pm.

Optimizing a commute has a number of factors. High mpg is great until it isn’t. I’d first use and make notes about every single possible route. Far out of the way but always moving can trump “the fuel efficient route” (which is almost always the shortest) as one’s stress level is reduced.

Sure, time of day, etc, is great. So is stopping for a beer to let traffic dissipate. Shake off the negativity with some other folks, and leave it behind. Coming in the door after a bad work day and worse traffic is no way to greet the wife & children.
