Ride home
The ride home was rather uneventful, I had some kids yell out that I looked like a freak and I just waved to them as I rode by (teenagers...pffft). Other then that, it was 92F (thank god it didn't go as high as they predicted it would today) and I thought I got a flat, but it turned out I just ran over something that made some really weird noise when I hit it that sounded like a "ppfffssstttt" sound, it was weird. O, and no one tried to kill me this time!

first commute for a bit. I was running a bit late today and didn't feel like riding, but i rode anyway. Today someone at work called me crazy for biking to work. I am the only one at work who rides my bike to work.
Here is an estimated breakdown of how people get to my work.
Drive-80
Bus- 0
Walk- 5
Scooter/Motorcycle-5
bike-1 (less then one because I don't ride everyday)

My commute was one of those days where I wish I had driven. I left in the dark came home in the dark and had a puncture. Changing the tube at 5:00 am is no fun.
I go in spurts with punctures. I have had 3 in the last month on 2 different bikes all were the self sealing tubes which of course did not. Thinking back on it i have never had luck with self sealing tubes. Have they worked for anyone else?

Don't take this the wrong way but how do you guys come in presentable at work? I have thought about getting a new bike and riding it to work except for the fact I can't show up to work a sweaty mess (and trust me I would be). Do you just change when you get there, clean up in the bathroom?

thats what i do when i ride to school, i keep a change of clothes in my locker (i know that not every work place has lockers though), they make bike bags though which are decent size so you could potentially carry your clothing neatly. also wet wipes help.

It can be a problem. I carry a complete change of clothes. Fortunately we have showers at work. I also carry a bath towel and baby wipes when going somewhere that does not. You can clean up pretty good in just a bathroom with them.

I don't really need to be presentable at work. Jeans + t-shirt is fine. I don't sweat in the morning anyways since it is 3.5 miles and mostly downhill. I just roll down my pant leg and comb my hair.

I lucked out on the job I have been doing for the last couple months. The bicycle commute is perfect. 5 miles each way, mostly flat. Mostly downhill on the way, uphill on the way back mainly up my driveway. 2 lane country roads. Only about 1000ft on a busy 2-laner. Sometimes the wind can be bad. that has been the biggest challenge so far. I have to leave 10 minutes early on a really windy day. I do landscaping so I can show up to work sweaty. Am loving the bike commute and the money it saves. got the michelin 26 by 1.5 smooth tires for lower rolling resistance. would recommend them for anyone commuting with a mtn bike.

What does it mean when people honk at you? I've been getting more and more of that each time I ride.

If it's followed by the finger I think we all know . I think you have to take the way the come around you as a sign as to whether they are mad or just letting you know that they are back there. I get a few chirps(Not sitting on the horn) from folks to just let me know that they are behind me.
