Sorry all to sound like an idiot, I have only driven two mt vehicles and neither were equipped with cruise. I'm assuming that the cruise just locks you into whatever gear you're in and keeps you in the range of that gear?

It doesn't work any differently than it does on an automatic. The only difference is that when you set cruise in an automatic car, you haven't deliberately chosen what gear the transmission is in when you choose your cruise speed.

I actually had a rental 09 Vue with a 2.4 and 4sp auto a couple weeks ago. It wasnt hard to manage 28-29 mpg average on the highway and I averaged 25-26 throwing some city driving in. Very impressive considering the size of the vehicle (3850lb 4cyl!!!).
