I own a 350z

I love my car it has a very streamlined shape .3 and a frontal area of 20.87 and revs 2200 rpm at 60mph which i would like to improve by bigger od tires. I've increased tire pressure and been doing some pulse and gliding. I've watched the improvement on the in car mpg guage can't get serious enough to keep a log.I would love any comments on improving my mpg. Thanks Roy

I see two choices:

1) Keep a log. A log tells you if your techniques really are improving mileage.

2) Enjoy the car as it is and ignore gas mileage.

Your car with my cars motor = a Slow car, but it would have unbelievable economy.
My advice is keep track of your fuel used, I write my mileage down on the fresh fuel receipt then reset my trip meter, once at home I use a fuel mileage calculator online.
It can help to keep your driving style in the "economy" mode if you force yourself to keep track of your mileage and improve on it.

If you are changing the tires you might look in to what other wheel options you have and see what options you have for slightly narrower or lower rolling resistance tires, with either of those you might not be able to corner at 90mph as well, but if you fallow basic traffic laws that shouldn't become an issue, often times the tires that are sold for cars like you have have speed ratings of 140mph and so on and for normal street use are not needed.

hoping to try keeping a log,, all i got to do is record my mileage next fill,, can't be that hard can it roy!! those pictures you attached ecomodded are my car same wheels and same color i had a second take wondering where you got the pictures lol! 62mpg!! thats impressive and i like that car, guess i'll be looking at something more thrifty when the 350z fever wears off!! i will be going for lrr tires next time ryland, but i dont know how big to go considering tire weight probably 1 to 1.5 inches. thanks for all your comments roy b.

An economy car should be driven like one and a sports car should be driven like one as well.

I love geting 50 mpg in my cobalt but when I get my s2000 (as a weekend car) it will be by total accident if I ever get more then 20 mpg in it. I also will probably only be putting a few thousand miles on it per year.

Whenever I see somone on the s2ki boards asking about better gas milage I always say the same thing. Take a couple of grand and buy a cheap beater.

That will save you money on gas, insuring a sports car as a weekend only and having a beater with limited coverage will probably be about the same cost, your sports car will hold it's value better, you will enjoy your sports car more when you do use it instead of getting ticked off when some moron door dings it in the company parking lot.

Just my $0.02 though.

Buy a $60 Ultra-gauge. That will allow you to monitor your fuel economy progress without keeping a gas log.

Contrary to what the others think and say, driving for fuel economy is performance driving.

i hear what your saying fr3akazoid, good advice i have little spurts of spirited driving but for the most part i find best mpg is perf driving as sentra se-r is saying. is scanguage really that much better than my car computer? thats extra bucks. roy b

i hear ya trying to get the most out of your car, i was/am too. But as mentioned, have the car for fun days, and get a beater. You'll enjoy the car that much more, i know i do.

Plus you'll inevitably have to sacrifice power or fuel economy. If you get taller gears you'll rev lower, but wont take off as fast for example.

I broke down and got another vehicle, fuel economy in mind among other things. I'm very glad i did.

Scangauge or $60 Ultra-gauge are much better than car computer. They show you engine load for best BSFC, instantaneous mpg, ignition timing for DWL, and more.
